Title: TRANSPORTATION IN MINNESOTA: STATUS AND OUTLOOK
Abstract: The author uses the end of the Minnesota Legislature's 1981 session and the formation of the Reagan Administration transportation programs to assess the current transportation situation in Minnesota and make some estimates of future trends and conditions. Since financial resources will be limited for the foreseeable future, the process of establishing priorities will continue to be of overriding importance the author sees the basic transportation issues for the cities in Minnesota for 1980's are: how to squeeze more productivity out of existing expenditures; developing conflict resolution mechanisms for working together with other cities, counties, the state, and the federal government to settle transportation issues quickly and effectively; and setting realistic priorities for capital improvement, with emphasis on preserving existing facilities, with the few dollars that are going to be available.
