Title: Indiana Rail Road: Regional with Its Eye on the Big Picture
Abstract: In order to plan for future growth, this article discusses how the Indiana Rail Road (INRD) is taking a serious approach towards its capital investments. For better or worse, time can change many things for a railroad. After years of neglect, a 109-mile section of track between Indianapolis and Sullivan, Indiana has been left in a state of disrepair. The article discusses how after three decades and $180 million in infrastructure investments, the INRD has turned the original line into a thriving 500-mile route which has earned the honor of being named the Railroad of the Year in 2012. INRD purchased the 109 miles from Illinois Central Gulf (ICG) in 1986 and its' first priority at the time was to stabilize the infrastructure. The second priority was to upgrade and add capacity for new business. INRD has in invested in track, bridges, locomotives, facilities and new technologies to help the railroad provide superior service.
