Abstract: This bulletin presents two reports on the cost of road accidents, and records the discussion and subsequent comments arising from a one day workshop based on the reports. Costs is a study which considered the task of improving decision-making skills with respect to road safety in order to assist authorities in their efforts to minimize the road accident losses within the constraints of a limited budget. Aspects of Cost Measurement for Road Safety Policy is the second part of a study concerned with how we might proceed to obtain estimates of accident costs which would be of direct value in improving the decisions of road authorities. The paper, Accident Data-The Current Situation briefly reviews the current accident situation in New Zealand, the accident reporting system and the use which is made of accident data. The paper, Accidents and the Roading Engineer discusses problems facing the engineer with regard to the design and programming of roading improvements.
