As regards the activated filler it is stated that through an immediate coating of the freshly formed filler surfaces during the manufacturing process with a thin bitumen film, an alteration of the properties of the filler can be effected. The following are given as advantages of the activated filler: non-sensitivity to water, possible storage in the open, no formation of lumps during saturation, and low porosity. Advantages of an asphaltic concrete mixture produced with an activated filler include easier working, a lower requirement of compactive effort, low requirement of binder and little sensitivity to temperature. /TRRL/Read More
