Title: COMPACT ASPHALT "FLUDOBIT" COMBINES EASY WORKABILITY WITH HIGH STRENGTH
Abstract: COMPACT ASPHALT HERE IS TERMED A SPECIAL SURFACING MATERIAL, AND IT IS EMPHASISED THAT IT IS A TYPE OF ROLLED ASPHALT WHICH HAS A MORTAR COMPOSITION TO ALLOW LAYING WITH AN EXTREMELY LOW PERCENTAGE OF VOIDS. THESE PROPERTIES OF THE MORTAR ARE OBTAINED BY MEANS OF COMPACTING INGREDIENTS WHICH REPLACE THE USUAL MINERAL FLOUR. THESE COMPONENTS ARE BLENDED IN THE FACTORY FROM A NUMBER OF SUBSTANCES AND CAUSE STABILISATION AND STIFFENING OF THE BITUMEN TO SUCH AN EXTENT THAT RESIDUAL VOIDS IN THE SURFACING TO ALLOW FOR SWELLING OF THE MORTAR ARE UNNECESSARY. THIS ALLOWS PLACING OF THE MORTAR WITH VOIDS CONTENT LESS THAN 1.5 PERCENT BY VOLUME AND GIVES THE FLUDOBIT SURFACING SPECIAL PROPERTIES WHICH DIFFERENTIATE IT FROM NORMAL ASPHALT CONCRETE AND ARE INTENDED TO MAKE IT COMPARABLE WITH GUSSASPHALT.
