Abstract: Origami promotes the design of bistable mechanisms. However, the conventional bistable mechanism based on the origami behaves multiple modes of motion. Thus in this manuscript, a novel bistable mechanism based on origami is proposed, which switches between two stabilized states by pure rotation. This mechanism stores the energy needed to induce elastic instability with the use of the pre-stretching membrane. A theoretical analysis model of this bistable mechanism was established. Its theoretical and experimental analysis is conducted to verify the rationality of the proposed bistable origami structure by setting reasonable configuration parameters.
