Title: Research and Analysis of the Flexible – Rigid Beam in Compliant Bistable Structure
Abstract: A compliant bistable mechanism is a form of smart structure that restricts assembly in manufacturing, popularly used because of its benefits such as saving operating energy, accurate operation, and reducing maintenance costs. The mechanism has two stabilizing positions, operating on the compression and relaxation of the flexible beams. In this design, the bistable mechanism is formed on flexible beam and rigid links. The design calculation methods that help predict the operating characteristics of this structure are not accurate and encounter many complications due to the nonlinear behavior of the operation. This paper applies mathematical methods to analyze and predict the properties of bistable models. This method divides the elastic bar component into several equal segments and applies Beam constraint theory to each segment to accurately indicate the properties of the compliant bistable structure. The finite element method is compared and verified and gives small error results.
