Abstract: Dear Authors and Readers, Two years ago, we started as Editors-in-Chief for the journal Mathematische Nachrichten, taking over the strategic and mathematical responsibility for this journal and being supported by Reinhard Mennicken as Managing Editor and by Marilene Teixeira Balbi as Coordinating Editor. The idea of establishing the new board of Editors-in-Chief was to enlarge the number of mathematical topics for this journal and to share responsibilities and decisions in order to shorten the time from submission to publication. During the last year, we continued in this direction and could improve the efficiency of the review process. For this, the online submission system ScholarOne Manuscript turned out to be a useful tool, in particular for tracking each submitted manuscript. For the year 2013, we received about 360 submitted papers. Due to page limitations, we were able to publish not more than 130 articles. This implies a rejection rate of more than 50 percent, which helps us to keep the high quality standard of Mathematische Nachrichten due to a restrictive reviewing process. Usually, the decision on a manuscript is based on at least two reviews, and we ask the reviewers to apply a high-quality standard. At the moment, our data base contains more than 4100 reviewers from nearly all branches of mathematics. With a traditional focus on analysis, our journal has a broad spectrum of topics, including algebra and number theory, algebraic geometry, differential geometry and stochastics. It is our intention to continue and strengthen this large variety of mathematical topics. In this direction, we will also continue to re-structure the board of associate editors. As new associate editors, we welcome Dorothee Haroske (Jena/Germany) as a well-known specialist in functional analysis and function spaces and Reinhard Farwig (Darmstadt/Germany) as an established researcher in partial differential equations and fluid mechanics. We also take the opportunity to thank Christiane Tretter (Bern/Switzerland) and Jean Mawhin (Louvain-la-Neuve/Belgium) who left the editorial board on their own request for their long-time support of Mathematische Nachrichten. In 2013, a special issue dedicated to Hans Triebel (Jena/Germany) on the occasion of his seventy-fifth birthday appeared, edited by Dorothee Haroske and Hans-Jürgen Schmeißer (both from Jena). For this, a remarkable number of high-quality papers in the theory of function spaces, operators and differential equations were collected and published in altogether three issues. This special issue constitutes a highlight in this modern and active field of mathematics, and we thank our guest editors for their help. The Editors-in-Chief and Wiley-VCH would like to take this opportunity to express many thanks to all who contributed to the success of Mathematische Nachrichten, to our associate editors, to the numerous referees from all over the world, and, last but not least, to our authors for their submissions.
