Title: Relationship between plasma homocysteine level and intracranial aneurysm
Abstract: Objective To study the relationship between plasma homocysteine, folate and VitB12 levels and intracranial aneurysn. Methods The levels of plasma homocysteine, folate and VitB12 of 80 intracranial aneurism patients and 60 healthy sabiects were measured by chemilumi-nescnet immunoassay. Results The mean level of plasma homocysteine in intracranial aneurysm patients Was significantly higher than that in healthy controls(P=0.005),but the level of folate and VitB12 was respectively lower than that in controls(P=0.01,P=0,005).The plasma Hcy levels were increased in 47.5%(38/80)of the patients and 15%(9/60)of the controls(X2=16.239,P<0.001)The level of plasma homocysteine was negatively correhted with the levels of folate and VitB12(P<0.05)Logistic procedure analysis showed that hyperhomocysteinemia Was an independent risk factor for intraeranial aneurysm(P=0.019).The odds ratio of hyperhomocyst-einemia was 3.961(95%CI:1.255~12.500).Conclusion Hyperhomocysteinemia is intimatly associated with intracranial aneurysm.and it may be a new independent risk factor for intracranial aneurysm.Hyperhomocysteinemia may be associated with the decrease of folate and VitB12 levels.
