Title: Principles of organising public transport in small tourist resorts
Abstract: The development of the small city of Fužine (800 habitants) is connected with tourism and activities connected with tourism. The town has many preconditions for developing tourism during the whole year. Fužine has a good traffic connection with its surrounding region and the whole territory of Croatia, but the problem is the transport system within the town. The purpose of this paper is to detect the main problems in the traffic system in the town of Fužine and to propose possible solutions for the transport system of Fužine and it’ s catchment area. The proposal is the introduction of public transport as a solution which will make possible the removal of the vehicles (primarily individual) from the centre of Fužine and the realization of better conditions for pedestrians, cyclists, etc. Properly designed and organized public transport will help in reducing air pollution and noise produced by traffic, and satisfy, at the same time, the traffic demand of tourists and residents. In this paper mini-buses are proposed as the optimal solution for the town of Fužine. Mini-buses have the possibility to move through narrow streets and to overcome inappropriate road conditions presented in many small tourist places. The bus lines are organized in such a way as to satisfy tourist demand and remain mindful of the needs of workers. The stops are placed at the catchment area of potentially interesting tourist objectives and working places. The conclusion of the paper is that public transport organized with mini-buses can be the proper solution for the town of Fužine, and will help in the environmental protection of the town
