Title: Small and Medium‐sized Enterprises, Partnerships and Networks: Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure Industries
Abstract: This paper reports on a study of independently owned and operated hotels, restaurants, pubs, leisure and visitor attractions in the UK. The aim is to identify to which partnerships and networks these small and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) belong and how they can exploit them successfully. Multiple research methods were employed including: a survey of 460 hotels to identify the range of partner organisations and networks; critical incident technique to facilitate categorisation of partnerships types; and owner and membership organisation interviews to surface perceptions of the benefits of partnering and networking, and associated issues and problems. Findings demonstrate a significant advancement of knowledge pertaining to SME partnerships and networks and conclusions drawn relative to optimising best practice success impact factors.
