Title: Effect of propofol on postoperative nausea and vomiting in the patients undergoing general anesthesia
Abstract: Objective To observe the effect of propofol in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting. Methods Forty-seven patients scheduled for select laparoscopy cholecystectomy were randomly divided into group A(24 cases) and group B(23 cases).Group A received fentanyl, propofol and vecuronium for induction of anesthesia, group B were induced with fentanyl, thiopental and vecuronium.Anesthesia was maintained by isoflurane inhalation in two groups.Recovery characteristic, the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and the patient number of antiemetic use were observed for 24h.Results Postoperative awakening time, postoperative awake time, the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting, and the patient number of antiemetic use in group A were much lower than those in group B(P0.05).Conclusion Propofol administered for general anesthesia is effective in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting, and can shorten the time of anesthetic recovery markedly.
