Title: Effects of peer education on preventing accidental injuries at school among middle school students
Abstract: Objective To explore the effects of peer education on injury prevention and control intervention.Methods A total of twelve classes were randomly chosen from 4 junior high schools.Three hundred and forty-eight students in 6 classes were taken as the experimental group(peer education group),and 332 students of the other 6 classes as the control group.Peer education was given to the experimental group as intervention while the control group did not take any interventions.The students in both groups were questionnaire surveyed before and after intervention.Results After the intervention,on the aspect of knowledge about injury-related prevention and control,the correct answer rate of peer education group was significantly increased than before(P0.01);on the aspect of prevalence rate of injury,peer education was decreased significantly(P0.01);no significant difference was found in the both aspects before and after the intervention(P0.05).Conclusion Peer education is an effective method to prevent and control injury,which is worthy of promotion.
