Title: Double blind study of citalopram and sertraline in treatment of first-episode aged depression
Abstract: Objective:To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of citalopram and sertraline in the treatment of first-episode aged depression.Method:Fifty-six patients with first-episode aged depression were randomly and double-blindly divided into citalopram group and sertraline group for 8 weeks.Hamilton depression scale(HAMD) and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS) were used to assess the efficacy and side effects.Results:Citalopram had similar efficacy and side effects to sertraline.At the end of 2nd week,the reduction of HAMD score was more in citalopram group than in sertraline group(P0.05).Conclusion:Both citalopram and sertraline are effective and safe in the treatment of aged depression,and may be as first choice for aged depression.
