Title: p63 Protein Expression and Its Value of Differential dIagnosis in Squamous Carcinomas
Abstract: Purpose To explore the differential diagnostic value of p63 protein expression in squamous carcinomas based on the association of expression levels with histological gradings. Methods The expression of p63 protein was identified by using Elivisions immunohistochemical essay in the paraffin embed tissue sections of 89 cases of squamous carcinomas of skin, nasopharynx, pharyngolarynx, lung, esophagus, uterine cervix and other metastatic carcinomas respectively,20 cases of breast infiltrating ductal carcinomas, and 10 cases of normal cervix squamous epithelial tissue. The expression levels were then compared with the histological grading of squamous carcinoma tissuges. Results 89 cases of squamous carcinomas and 10 cases of normal cervix squamous epithelial cells were shown positive results only. In histological grading Ⅰgroup, the positive rate +:56 %(19/34),:41 % (14/34),:3 % (1/34).In histological grading Ⅱgroup, the positive rate +:27 % (4/15),:60 %(9/15),:13 %(2/15).In histological grading groupⅢ, the positive rate +:8 % (2/40),:25 %(10/40),:68 %(27/40). Significant correlation of p63 protein expression levels with histological grading was well established(C=0.49,χ 2=43.56,P0.01). In contrary 20cases of breast carcinoma were show all negative results. Conclusions p63 protein expression level is to be highly associated with the histological grading, particularly with poor differential squamous carcinomas ,which not only indicated the malignancy of squamous carcinomas ,but served as a reliable diagnostic marker of squamous carcinomas, playing an important role in differential diagnosis for poor differential squamous carcinomas.
