Title: The overexpression of PCNA in the diagnosis of cervical squamous carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To study the clinical significance of the overexpression of proliferative cell nuclear antigenic (PCNA) gene in the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of cervix in 45 patients with cervical squamous carcinoma. Methods The paraffin slides were cut and stained with HE, and immunohistochemically stained with ABC method. Then the PCNALI (PCNA/ cyclin labeling index). was counted under optical microscope. Results From normal cervical squamous epithelium to CINⅡ (Cervical intraepithelial neoplasiaⅡ)and to squamous cell carcinoma of cervix, the scale of cells which express the positive PCNA and the positive intensity tended to increase, and the differences of PCNALI between the mentioned above three were statistically significant (P0.05). In 45 patients with squamous cell carcinoma, the PCNALI increased as the increasing of the tumor grading. The differences of PCNALI between saquamous carcinomaⅠ,Ⅱand Ⅲ were statistically significant (P0.05). The differences of PCNALI were also significant between patients with metastatic carcinoma of regional lymph nodes and those without metastatic carcinoma. (P0.05). Conclusions PCNALI played an important role in monitoring the occurrence and development of cervical squamous carcinoma, early diagnosing and judging the biologic behavior of neoplasm and also in predicting the prognosis of the patients.
