Title: Clinical and coronary angiographic characteristics in type II diabetes mellitus patients complicated with coronary heart disease
Abstract: AIM: To investigate the clinical and coronary artery lesion characteristics in type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus (DM) patients complicated with coronary heart disease (CHD). METHODS: To analyse the clinical and coronary angiographic characteristics of 354 DM patients with CHD and compared with 1222 nondiabotic patients with CHD. RESULTS: The DM patients had much more cardiovascular risk factors, including hypertension, high triglyceride, smoking in women and silent ischemia, than the nondiabotic CHD patients. The proportions of 3 branches coronary artery lesions and type C lesions were higher in the DM group than in the controls (35.9% vs 27.6% ;60.6% vs 48.7%, P0.01, respectively), while the single lesion disease and type A lesions were lower in the DM group than in the controls(34.5% vs 41.8%;7.3% vs 19.0%, P0.01, respectively). The diffuse vascular lesions and small vessel lesions were more frequently found in the DM group than in the controls(26.3% vs 18.0% ;32.0% vs 25.1%, P0.01, respectively). CONCLUSION: The clinical and angiographic characteristics are significantly different in the two groups. The coronary angiogram in DM patients with CHD showed more multivessel lesions, type C lesions, complex lesions and small vessel disease.
