Title: Effect of integrative medicine treatment on 48 infertile patients with diminished ovarian reserve
Abstract: Objectives: To observe the effect of integrative medicine treatment on infertile patients with diminished ovarian reserve. Methods: Forty-eight infertile patients of diminished ovarian reserve were treated with integrative medicine from May 2004 to December 2006 in our center.Patients were divided into 3 groups: 16 patients with IVF-ET failure(IVF-ET group),9 patients with premature ovarian failure(POF group) and 23 patients with diminished ovarian reserve(OV↓ group).Yu's follicle replenishing recipe was administered daily for all patients, combined with different dosages of estrogen and mental-physical instructions.Symptoms, basic body temperature(BBT),ovulation rate, pregnancy rate and serum sex hormones levels on cycle day 3 were observed before and after the treatment. Results: During the treatment, symptoms were gratefully relieved in all 48 patients, and the pregnancy rate was 40%.Ovulation rate was significantly increased from 17%(8/48) before treatment to 56 %(27/48) after treatment(P0.01).Levels of serum E2 changed little(P0.05),but serum FSH and FSH/LH reduced significantly(P0.05). Conclusions: The main medicine—Yu's follicle replenishing recipe in the integrative medicine treatment not only increases ovulation rate and pregnancy rate in infertile patients with diminished ovarian reserve, but also helps them to relieve the symptoms.
