Title: Effect of cadmium on apoptosis of renal cells in mice
Abstract: Objective To study the effects of cadmium on apoptosis of renal cells in mice.Method Eighty mice were randomly divided into five groups, and each group was injected intraperitoneally(ip)with 80,160,240,320 mg/kg of CdCl 2 and 0.9% NaCl per day for five days a week in 6 weeks.Half of the mice in each group were sacrificed 4 weeks after injection, and another half were sacrificed 6 weeks after injection.Kidney coefficients were measured and renal cell apoptosis was determined with flow cytometry.Expression of Bcl-2 protein was measured by immunohistochemistry.Result Kidney coefficients and apoptotic rates of renal cells in cadmium-treated mice were significantly higher than in controls.Expression of Bcl-2 protein decreased in cadmium-treated mice significantly. Conclusion Cadmium could induce apoptosis of renal cells in mice.
