Title: Expression changes of CD_(44)v6 and E-cadherin in primary and metastatic colorectal cancer
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression changes of CD44v6 and E-cadherin in primary and metastatic colorectal cancer and the significance. Methods The expression of CD44v6 and E-cadherin proteins was detected by immunohistochemical staining in 118 colorectal cancer tissues,61 colorectal adenoma tissues and 41 lymph node metastasis tissues of colorectal cancer. Results The positive expression rate of CD44v6 protein in the colorectal cancer tissues( 63.6%) was significantly higher than that in the colorectal adenoma tissues( 42. 6%),the positive expression rate of CD44v6 protein in Duke( C + D)( 73. 8%) was significantly higher than that in Duke( A + B)( 50. 9%),and the positive expression of CD44v6 protein was significantly higher in the cases with metastasis than that in the cases without metastasis( 78. 0% vs 55. 8%)( all P 0. 05). The positive expression rate of E-cadherin protein in the colorectal adenoma tissues( 73. 8%) was significantly higher than that in colorectal cancer tissues( 57. 6%),the positive expression rate of Ecadherin protein in Duke( A + B)( 69. 8%) was significantly higher than that in Duke( C + D)( 47. 7%),and the positive expression rate of E-cadherin protein was significantly higher in the cases without metastasis than that in the cases with metastasis( 66. 2% vs 41. 5%)( all P 0. 05). The positive expression rate of E-cadherin in 41 primary colorectal carcinomas( 41. 5%) was significantly higher than that in the matched lymph node metastasis( 19. 5%)( P 0. 05). Conclusion CD44v6 protein is highly expressed in the colorectal carcinomas and the expression of E-cadherin protein is low, both of which may be associated with the invasion and metastasis of colorectal carcinoma.
