Title: Initial study on safetiness and effectiveness of microwave ablation in the treatment of metastatic adrenal neoplasms
Abstract: Objective To initially study the safetiness and effectiveness of microwave ablation in the treatment of metastatic adrenal neoplasms. Methods A total of 7 patients with 8 metastatic adrenal neoplasm lesions were treated with microwave ablation. The mean maximum diameter of the lesions was 4.7cm(range,2.7~7.2cm).Plain CT scanning immediately after ablation and enhanced CT scanning 1 month later were carried out to evaluate the extent of necrosis. Results On plain CT scanning immediately after ablation, the extents of necrosis ranged from 90% to 100%(mean,97.5%)and complete necrosis rate was 75%(6/8).On enhanced CT scanning 1 month later, the rates were 80% to 100%(mean,93.1%) and 50%(4/8).No major complications were related to the ablations. Conclusion Microwave ablation is safe and effective in treating metastatic adrenal neoplasms.
