Title: A Review on Christian Philanthropy in the Late Qing Dynasty
Abstract: After the First Opium War,Christianity began its forth dissemination upsurge in China.Under the shelter of unequal treaties,a lot of missionaries entered China to do missionary work. In order to break through the resistance from all levels of society, the missionaries conducted lots of Charity activities, including medical and health work, taking care of infants and children, and disaster relief. Although the philanthropy activities conducted by the missionaries had the subjective pragmatistic motivation of religion dissemination, they help many Chinese people in need objectively, and promoted the transformation of Chinese modern philanthropy to some extent.
