Title: Expression of Twist and Skp2 in the cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical invasive squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract: Purpose To investigate the expression of Twist and S-phase kinase associated protein 2(Skp2) in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN)and cervical invasive squamous cell carcinoma(SCC),and to explore the significance of their expression in the carcinogenesis of cervix. Methods Twist and Skp2 were studied with immunohistochemical staining(SP) in 85 cases of CIN and 40 cases of cervical invasive SCC.26 cases of normal cervical epithelia were contrasted and related literatures were reviewed. Results The positive rates of Twist and Skp2 increased from normal cervical epithelia,CIN 1,CIN 2,CIN 3 to cervical SCC groups.Twist positive rates were 0,10%,42.3%,48.3% and 52.5% respectively;Skp2 positive rates were 23.1%,46.5%,73.1%,93.1% and 92.5% respectively. The expression of Twist in cervical invasive SCC and CIN significantly were higher than that of normal cervical epithelia;CIN 2,CIN 3 and SCC were higher than that of CIN 1.The expression of Skp2 in cervical SCC and CIN were significantly higher than that of normal cervical epithelia;CIN 2,CIN 3 and cervical SCC were significantly higher than that of CIN 1.There are significant difference among normal cervical epithelia with CIN and cervical SCC groups. Conclusion It's found that the positive rates of Twist and Skp2 become higher and higher from normal cervical epithelia,CIN 1,CIN 2,CIN 3 to cervical invasive SCC;Their overexpression may play an important role in the carcinogenesis of cervix. In gynecological pathology, the detection of Twist and Skp2 may helpful for the diagnosis of CIN 1 and CIN 2.
