Title: Investigation on the Skills Required of Nurse Managers
Abstract: Objective To identify the skills required of nurse managers in order to provide information for training programs designed for the managers.Methods Seven hundred and sixty-seven nurse managers were investigated by using a self-developed manager skill questionnaire.Results The results showed that for a nurse manger the most important abilities are interpersonal skill(9.38±0.74) and technical abilities(8.71±0.91)are relatively less important.For head nurses,the most important abilities include the ability to balance work and family(9.73±0.82),skills for emergency aid(9.64±(0.83)) and ability to motivate and develop staff(9.63±0.96).The most important abilities required of the directors of nursing department involves capabilities of decision-making(9.51±0.94),planning(9.46±0.96),and personnel resource management(9.42±0.85).Conclusion It's necessary to set up training programs for nurse managers and the training of head nurses and the directors of nursing department should be carried out on differential basis.
