Title: A NEW SPECIES OF CATANTOPIDAE FROM HAINAN ISLAND (ORTHOPTERA: ACRIDOIDEA)
Abstract: This paper reports a new species of grasshopper from Hainan Island. Type specimens are preserved in the Institute of Entomology, Zhongshan University, and in the Department of Biology, Shaanxi Normal University respectively.Longzhouacris hainanensis, sp. nov.(figs. 1-8)This new species is related to Longzhouacris rufipennis You et Bi, but differs from the latter in: (1) the prozona of pronotum about 1.5 times longer than metazona; (2) disc of pronotum without a longitudinal stripe; (3) elytra of both sexes reaching the middle or posterior margin of third abdominal tergite; (4) elytra with green, black and reddish stripes; (5) body smaller.Measurements of body and appendages of the new species: length of body: ♂ 18-18.5, ♀23-24.1 mm; length of antenna: ♂ 12.5, ♀ 11.6 mm; length of elytra: ♂ 5.2-5.5,♀ 6-6.9 mm; length of hind femur: ♂ 10.9-11; ♀ 12-12.8mm.Holotype ♂, allotype ♀, Guangdong: Hainan Island. 910 m, 22. Ⅱ. 1982, taken by Liang Leqiu; paratypes 1 ♂ 1 ♀, locality and date same as the holotype, Liang Leqiu and Huang Wenzhong; paratype 1 ♂, locality same as the holotype , 3. Ⅴ. 1975, Hua Lizhong.
