Title: Design Methods for Pinned Panel Points of Domestic and Foreign Bridges
Abstract: To study the design methods for the pinned panel points in the pinned and hinged connection fixity system,thus to avoid the three failure modes of compression failure of the panel points,compression failure of pin axles and also tearing failure of the points,through comparison and analysis of the relevant provisions in the steel bridge design codes of the Chinese JTJ 025-86,TB 10002.2-2005,Japanese Specifications for Highway Bridges,Eurocode 3,AASHTO and BS 5400,it is considered that the requirements for the structural formation of the three aspects of the compression design strength,control of the gaps between the pin axles and pin holes and the minimum thickness of the panel points are quite important at the time the pinned connections are required to have rotary function in the design and moreover,the provisions for the contact stress in the hole walls in the Japanese Specifications and Eurocode 3 are also worthy of attention.
