Title: Reinforcing design and analysis on beam and panel zone of monolayer light-weight gabled frame
Abstract: The shift of functions of monolayer light-gauge steel frames may bring some potential risks that the stiffness and capacity of structural component is not sufficient,or the loading capacity of connections can not satisfy the requirement of design any more. Therefore, the reinforcement is applied to ensure the safety of the future use.A practical example and its reinforcement scheme are presented in this paper. The beams and columns of the frames are reinforcement by means of amplify their section areas;a single stiffer is used across the panel zone of the connection and a haunch is placed to support between beams and columns. The results of finite element analysis carried out by the software ANSYS verify the feasibility of the reinforcing scheme. However,it should be noticed that the employment of haunch slightly changes the mechanics in the vicinity of the connections, and sometime the checking for the loading capacity of columns is required.
