Title: An Analysis on the Causes of Injury Death in Zhejiang Province, 1999~2001
Abstract: Objective To understand the causes of injury death in Zhejiang Province,and to provide information for injury prevention and research.Methods The death data from diseases surveillance spots during 1999-2001 was analyzed by the death cause classification with the ICD-9, and the mortality rates of various injuries were compared.Results In 2001, the injury mortality rate in country and in city were 72.64/100 ,000 and 26.41/100 ,000 respectively, and the traffic accident, falling, suicide and drowning were main death causes. In country, the traffic accidental mortality increased 1 time than that 11 years ago. The traffic accidental decedents mainly were passenger and bicycle drivers, accounting for more than 70%. And the mortality in man was higher than that in woman; the youth and old folks were also high, and drivers were less than 3%. The falling mortality in country was higher than that in city, which in women was also higher than in men. And the mortality reached high peak in the elderly aged 85 and over. The suicide mortality in country was 18.98/100 ,000, which in men was little higher than in women, and taking orally organic phosphorus pesticide or drugs killing mouse was the main means. The poisoning mortality in country residents was 18.98/100 ,000,and suicide was the main mean, accounting for more than 90%. Drowning happened in country mainly, and the mortality in boys aged less than 10 and the elderly was relatively high.Conclusions The main injury death cause categories in Zhejiang Province are generally consistent with the domestic or international one, but the exterior death causes and the death characteristics are different.The comprehensive and systemic injury surveillance,the risk factor research surrounding main injury categories and corresponding preventive strategy should be carried out.
