Title: Diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for hepatic abscesses
Abstract: Objective To investigate the characteristics of contrast-enhanced ultasonography of liver abscess. Methods Twelve liver abscesses in 11 patients confirmed by CT and clinical manifestation were examined using conventional ultrasound and contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and the beginning time and the peak time were recorded. Results The contrast-enhanced ultrasound showed enhancement in the artery phase in 11 abscesses(91.7%) ,including 4 abscesses(33.3%) for honeycomb-like enhancement with some small unenhanced cavities inside and 7 abscesses(58.3%) for peripheral wall thickening enhancement and internal sponge-like enhancement, and a honeycomb change but internal septal isoenhancemen in one(8.3%) .Multiple or single sheets of non-enhanced region were found in all abscesses. Conclusion Contrast-enhanced ultrasound features are variable, which is helpful in the diagnosis of the liver abscess.
