Title: Expression of Livin and Survivin in Colorectal Cancer Tissue and Its Prognosis Value
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of Livin and Survivin gene and evaluate its prognosis value of colorectal cancer. Methods A total of 61 specimens of colorectal cancer tissues,17 specimens of paraneoplastic tissues, and 32 specimens of benign neoplasm tissues diagnosed from January 2003 to December 2003 by postoperative pathology were selected. The expression of Livin and Survivin in the patients were examined by Elivision immunohistochemistry. The correlation between survival rate in colorectal cancer patients and the expression of Livin and Survivin were analyzed. Results The positive expressions of Livin and Survivin gene in colorectal cancer tissues were significantly higher than that in paraneoplastic tissues and benign neoplasm tissues, and the differences were significant(P0.05,P0.01);The expression of Livin was highly expressed in colorectal cancer patients with recurrence and metastasis than those without recurrence and metastasis(P0.05).No relationship was found between the expression of Livin and Survivin in colorectal cancer tissues(P0.05).The 5 years total survival rate in patients with Livin positive tissues was lower than that in patients with negative tissues(P0.05),and it in patients with survivin positive tissues was lower than that in patients with negative tissues(P0.05).The prognosis of colorectal cancer patients was negatively related to the expression of Survivin and Livin(P0.05).Conclusion Both Livin and Survivin are highly expressed in colorectal cancer tissues, and may contribute to the cause and development of the disease, and may be used as tumor makers to predict the prognosis of the patients.Livin was more closely related to recurrence, metastasis and prognosis of the patients.
