Title: Expression of EGF protein and mRNA in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissue
Abstract: Aim:To investigate the expression of EGF in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) tissue and the relationship between it and infiltration, metastasis, occurrence and development of ESCC.Methods:The expressions of EGF protein and mRNA were examined by immunohistochemical SP method and in situ hybridyzation in 62 cases of normal esophageal mucosa,31 cases of adjacent atypical hyperplasia and 62 cases of ESCC tissue, respectively. Results:In normal mucosa, adjacent dysplasia tissue and ESCC tissue, the expression rate of EGF protein was 27.4%, 45.2%, and 69.4%, respectively, and that of EGF mRNA was 40.3%, 48.3%, and 77.4%, respectively. There were significant differences among the 3 groups in the expression of EGF protein and mRNA (χ2=21.954,χ2=18.494,P0.01.The expression of EGF protein and mRNA in ESCC tissue were associated with the differentiation, invasion depth, and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).Conclusion:The over-expressions of EGF protein and mRNA in ESCC tissue are associated with invasion, metastasis and the occurrence and development of ESCC. EGF could become one of the indicators in the process of early diagnosis and prognosis of ESCC.
