Title: From Tradition to Discourse: Teaching English Grammar from the Perspective of Discourse
Abstract: This paper makes a reconsideration of the teaching of English grammar from the perspective of discourse. It discusses how English grammar had been traditionally treated and taught as a departure for the argumentation that grammar should be viewed and taught in relation to discourse and context.Drawing from the close relationship between grammar and discourse,it can be concluded that the teaching of grammar should get over the tradition of decontextualization and sentence level and be shifted to the contextualized discourse level,at which learners can achieve real language acquisition and improve their communicative competence.
