Title: Correlation of expression levels of p53 and MVD with development and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To study the relat io nship between the expression of p53 and microvessel density(MVD) and the clinico pathogical characteristics of human hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Method The expression of p53 and CD34 was examined by S-P immunohistochemica l technique in 50 cases of human hepatocellular carcinoma.Resu lts p53 was loca ted in the nuclei of tumor cells and CD34 mainly in the cytoplasm of vascular endothelial cells.MVD was significantly higher in p53-positive HCC than i n p53-negative HCC(P0.05).p53 expression and MVD were closely correlated to tum or size, number, differentiation, cancer emboli in the portal vein and completeness of capsule(P0.05).They were also correlated with prognosis of HCC.The mean tumor-free survial time of the patients with MVD≥ 148 was 12 months, while that of MVD148 was 46 months(P0.05).Follow-up ex amination showed that postoperative surival time was markedly lower in HCC patients with positiv e expression of p53.Conclusions p53 expressi on is singnificantly associated wi th MVD.The expression of p53 and MVD can be the predictors for the prognosis of HCC.
