Title: Expression and significance of E-cadherin protein in colorectal cancer
Abstract: Objective To investigate the correlation between the expression of E-cadherin(E-cad) protein and invasion, metastasis and prognosis in colorectal cancinoma (CRC). Methods The expression of E-cad protein were measured by immunohistochemistry in 101 specimens of CRC,10 specimens of colorectal adenoma and 20 specimens of normal tissues. Results The reduced-expression of E-cad protein was associated with Dukes stages and degree of differentiation, lymph nodes and distant organs metastasis (P 0. 05); there was no correlation with types of neoplasms, depth of infiltration, location, size, gender and age ( P 0. 05). The difference of survival periods between positive and negative groups on E-cad protein was not signficant(P 0. 05). Conclusion The reduced-expression of E-cad protein is closely associated with invasion and metastasis in colorectal cancer.
