Title: Protective actions of topiramte on cerebral ischemia-reperfusion damage and influence on apoptosis
Abstract: Objective: To observe the effects of topiramte on neurocyte structure and apoptosis of experimental cerebral ischemia reperfusion Methods: Thirty pallasiomies were randomly divided into three groups: (1) sham operation, (2) ischemia reperfusion and (3) topiramte prevention Cerebral ischemia reperfusion replicas of pallasiomy were made by clipping bilateral common carotid arteries in both the second and the third groups, but not in the sham operation group Three days after the operation, pallasiomies were killed Neurocyte structure in hippocampus CA 1 area was observed with optical and electron microscope respectively Apoptosis was observed by the TUNEL method Results:In ischemia reperfusion group, neurocytes in hippocampus CA 1 aera showed ischemia changes In topiramte group, the damage was relieved The number of apoptosis was low in topiramte group compared to that in the ischemia-reperfusion group, and there was significant difference (P0 01) Conclusion: Topiramte can obviously relieve neurocyte damage and apoptosis caused by ischemia reperfusion, protecting neurocytes against ischemia reperfusion
