Title: Relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and peripheral white blood cell and its differential count in the elderly
Abstract: Objective To discuss the relationship between carotid atherosclerosis( CAS) and peripheral white blood cell, differential count of peripheral white blood cell,C-reactive protein( CRP) in the elderly. Methods The data of carotid, laboratory detection, indices of anthropometry and bone mineral density of 192 elderly people were collected, and then were compared between the patients with CAS and those without CAS. Results The general prevalence rate of CAS of the elderly was 61. 98%. Between CAS group and non-CAS group, there was statistical difference( P 0. 05) in age, pulse pressure( PP),white blood cell( WBC) count, neutrophil( N) count,CRP,low density lipoprotein( LDL-C), fasting blood glucose( FBG) and osteoporosis. Age,LDL-C,FBG and neutrophil( N) count were independent risk factors showed by Logistic regression analysis. Conclusions The inflammatory markers such as WBC count,N count and CRP might help to predict CAS in clinic.
