Title: Effects of Glyoxal in Activity of Antioxidase and the Contents of Sulfhydryl Groups in Blood and Tissues of Mice
Abstract: Objective To study the probable toxicological mechanism of glyoxal by observing effects of glyoxal on antioxidase and the contents of sulfhydryl groups in mice blood and tissues. Methods 40 mice were divided in random into 1 negative control group and 3 experiment groups injected intraperitoneally with glyoxal of 75 mg/kg (1/8 LD 50 ), 150 mg/kg (1/4 LD 50 )and 300 mg/kg (1/2 LD 50 )respectively. The activity of GSH-Px and content of total sulfhydryl(T-SH), non-protein sulfhydryl(NP-SH)and protein sulfhydryl groups(PB-SH)in blood and tissues of mice were measured 24 h after intoxication. Results The activities of GSH-Px in blood, liver and kidney of mice treated with glyoxal were significantly lower than those of the control. The contents of T-SH and PB-SH in blood of mice treated with all doses of glyoxal and brain of mice treated with high dose of glyoxal were higher than those of the control. In blood, brain and kidney of high-dose groups and in liver in every dose groups the contents of NP-SH were markedly lower than those of the control. Conclusions The activities of GSH-Px in blood, liver and kidney and the contents of NP-SH in blood and tissues of mice were inhibited when exposed to glyoxal. The contents of T-SH and PB-SH in blood and brain have increased after exposed to glyoxal.
