Title: Clinical Significance of Expression of p53 Protein and Apoptosis in Bladder Cancer
Abstract: Objective To investigate the apoptosis and expression of p53 protein in bladder cancers. Methods Apoptosis Index(AI) was assessed with TUNEL technique, and immunohistochemical stainings of p53 were performed in 83 cases of the bladder carcinomas and 11 normal bladder mncosa. Results The positive expression rate of p53 gene was 50.6% and AI= 1.4335 ±0.3863 in 83 cases of the bladder carcinomas. The expression level of p53 was positively correlated with the tumor pathological grade and clinical stage (γ=0.492,P0.01;γ=0.341,P0.01); The level of AI was positively correlated with pathological grade and clinical stage (γ=0.642,P=0.0000.01;γ=0.455,P=0.0000.01); The level of AI was no correlated with p53.AI and the expression of p53 were related to 5-year survival rate. Conclusion Combined analysis of the tumor pathological grade, clinical stage and p53 genes expression is useful in providing prognostic information in bladder cancer.
