Title: Electrochemical behavior of activated carbon for the asymmetric supercapacitor
Abstract: The electrochemical behavior of activated carbon (AC) at low potential as the negative electrode of the asymmetric supercapacitor was investigated. The possible electrochemical reactions under low potential was discussed by the cyclic voltammetry and available potential range, that was 4-0.8 V (vs. Li+/Li), for activated carbon electrode in asymmetric supercapacitors was suggested. The specific capacitance of activated carbon decreased when the potential was under 0.8 V as a result of Li+ ion reduction to Li. The capacitor performance parameters at different potential ranges were calculated according to the galvanostatic charge-discharge. The specific capacitance of activated carbon reached 117.8 F/g at the charge cutoff potential of 0.8 V, the energy density of the asymmetric supercapacitor was 55.2 Wh/kg and the coulombic efficiency was 92.8%.
