Title: Expression of protein S100A4 in colorectal carcinoma and its significance
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of protein S100A4 in colorectal carcinoma and its significance. Method S-P immunohistochemical method was used to detect the expression of protein S100A4 in 68 specimens of colorectal carcinoma and 20 normal colorectal tissues. Results There was a statistically significant difference in protein S100A4 expression between the normal tissues and the carcinoma tissues (0% vs 61.8%,P=0.003). The expression of protein S100A4 differed significantly in Dukes stage, lymph node metastasis, and survival time (P 0.05) but not in age, sex, tumor location, gross type, histological classification, and the degree of tumor cell differentiation (P 0.05), with a positive relation to Dukes stage and lymph node metastasis and with an inverse association with survival time. Conclusion Protein S100A4 is closely related with colorectal carcinoma invasion and metastasis and may be an important predictor in predicting the pathological characteristics and prognosis of colorectal carcinoma.
