Title: Significance of Apoptosis and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen Expression in Gastric Carcinoma
Abstract: To investigate the correlation between apoptosis proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression and clinicopathologic factors prognosis in gastric carcinoma (GC).Cell apoptosis index (AI) and PCNA expression of 110 specimens from patients with GC were investigated by TUNEL technic and SP immunohistochemical staining method.Correlations between AI,PCNA expression and clinicopathologic factors, prognosis were analyzed.AI of differentiated GC was significantly higher than that of undifferentiated GC (P0 01),and AI was also significantly higher in GC patients without serosal invasion, lymph node metastasis than that in those with invasion or metastasis (P0 01).The incidence of PCNA expression in undifferentiated GC was significantly higher than that of differentiated GC (P0 005),and PCNA positivity was significantly higher in GC patients with serosal invasion, lymph node metastasis than that in those without invasion or metastasis (P0 005).AI of tumor with survival ≥ 5 years was significantly higher than that with surival 5 years, and PCNA positivity of tumor with survival ≥5 years was significantly lower than that with survival 5 years. There was a negative relationship between PCNA positivity and AI.[Conclusions]Apoptosis and PCNA expression are significant for estimating the biological behavior and prognosis in GC.Combined determination plays a synergic efficacy.
