Title: Tribology property of uhmwpe composites filled with carbon black and tiny glass powder
Abstract: The friction and wear properties of UHMWPE composites, filled with carbon black and tiny glass powder, were investigated with MM - 200 wear tester, with an emphasis on the effect of load and the counterpart surface roughness (particle size). The worn surfaces of UHMWPE and its composites were examined through a scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and mechanism of wearing was analyzed. The results show that the carbon black can improve the wear resistance performance of UHMWPE and the counterpart surface roughness is an important influence factor for UHMWPE composites wearing, when the roughness of the counterpart surface is increased, it will result in rising of the wear of UHMWPE composites. Coefficient of friction of two kinds of UHMWPE composites are close, and is greater than pure UHMWPE, especially with the load increasing and the roughness is increasing.
