Title: Treating zinc oxide ores using ammonia-ammoniumchloride to produce electrolysis zinc
Abstract: A new process of producing zinc from zinc oxide ores in the system of NH_4Cl-NH_3-H_2O was introduced . In the process, NH_4Cl-NH_3-H_2O was used as leaching agent, the Zn(NH_3)~(2+)_i was formed when the solution was reacted with zinc oxide ores, the rate of zinc that could be dissolved in the solution was more than 93%, while the content of both As and Sb were lower than 0.25 mg/L, the content of Fe was lower than 0.15 mg/L, and there were little other impurities in the solution. The leached solution was purified with zinc powder, and then electrolyzed to produce electrolysis zinc. The production had good quality, w(Zn)99.999%, and the content of the impurities were very low, extraordinarily w(Fe)1.0×10~(-6); the current efficiency was 96.35% while the energy requirement was 2 505 kW·h. Ammonia is added into the solution, which would be recycled as leaching solution again.
