Title: INVESTIGATIONS ON THE CARBON,NITROGEN SOURCE AND GROWTH FACTOR REQUIREMENTS FOR MYCELIAL GROWTH OF LENTINUS EDODES IN SUBMERGED CULTURE
Abstract: Several basal media on carbon, nitrogen sources and growth fac- tor tests were designed for the experiments. The experimental results indicated that waste molasses, brown sugar,corn-steep liquor, yeast powder, bran extract may contain some sub- stances which could stimulate the mycclial growth of Lentinus edodes in submerged culture, while various vitamins(including thiamine),amino-acids,organic acids, plant growth hormones, etc.were shown to be without distinct effect. With the promotion of the above- mentioned substances, the mycelium of L.edodes could then utilize inorganic or organic ni- trogen sources.Among the inorganic nitrogen compounds tested,NH_4NO_3 is the most desi- rable,and(NH_4)H_2PO_4,NH_4CI,etc.Corn-steep liquor and yeast powder were found to be the most preferable substances in comparable to the other organic nitrogen.Corn starch was proved to be the most suitable carbon source.A desirable and cheap formulation of a liquid medium is described, and in such medium,a dense suspension of L.edodes with numerous small and homogeneous mycelial pellets, could be successfully produced.
