Title: Research and development of heavy gauge quenched and tempered high strength Q890 steel
Abstract: The 70 mm heavy gauge and high strength Q890 steel was successfully developed by proper chemical composition design, optimized thermo-mechanical control process(TMCP) and quenching and tempering process(QT) The better mechanical properties are obtained. The yield strength at the center and quarter of the plate thickness is between 895 MPa and 976 MPa,and the tensile strength is in the range of 949 MPa to 1020 MPa.The minimum value of elongation is 15.5%,and its maximum value can reach 18.0%.The Charpy impact energy at-20 ℃ and-40 ℃ are 165-209 J and 103-197 J,respectively. The requirements of GB /T 16270-2009 about mechanical properties to Q890 steel are fully met.Through tempering simulation trial, strength of the plate decreases, but ductility and toughness is improved with the tempering temperature increasing. The better comprehensive properties of strength, ductility and toughness can be achieved for the Q890 steel after tempering at 600 ℃.
