Title: Effect of alloying elements and heat-treatment on properties of high-pressure gas cylinder steel
Abstract: The effect of V,Mo and Mn addition and heat-treatment on properties of the Cr-Mo gas cylinder steel was investigated in this paper. It was found out that by adding 0.13% V into the steel sample and tempering it at 540℃,the tensile strength of the sample would increase by 60 MPa.The reason was that the sample's grains had been refined. As the tempering temperature increased, the steel sample's strength would decrease linearly. However, the alloy with V addition showed better tempering stability.By adding more alloying element,Mo,into the steel sample and tempering it at 570℃ for 2 h,the sample's tensile strength would reach the peak value,1 245 MPa.When the tempering temperature was 600℃,its strength was 1 185 MPa and its toughness(-50℃) was 52 J/cm2.At that time, the steel had excellent combination of strength and toughness.Though the addition of Mn could improve the alloy strength, the steel sample's toughness remained at a low level.
