Title: Expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 and CD147 in ovarian epithelial tumor
Abstract: AIM To investigate the expression of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP 2) and CD147 in ovarian epithelialtumor. METHODS The expression of MMP 2 and CD147 was detected in malignant, borderline and benign ovarian tissues by immunohistochemical SP method. Monoclonal antibodies against MMP 2 and CD147 were used. RESULTS Intense expression rates of MMP 2 in the malignant, borderline, benign epithelial tumor tissues of ovary was 59%, 42%, 30% respectively, There were a significant difference between malignant, borderline and benign tumors ( P 0.05 ). In ovarian cancer, the expression of MMP 2 had a significant relevance to clinical phases and lymph node metastasis. The intense expression rate (71%) in phases Ⅲ~Ⅳ of ovarian cancer was much higher than that in phases Ⅰ~Ⅱ (37%); no relevance was observed with pathological grades. The intense expression rates of CD147 in the malignant, borderline, benign ovarian epithelial tumor were 64%, 57%, 0 respectively. Significant difference was observed between malignant, borderline and benign ovarian epithelial tumor. In ovarian cancer, the expression of CD147 was associated with clinical phases; the intense expression rate (74%) in phases Ⅲ~Ⅳ of ovarian cancers was much higher than that in phases Ⅰ~Ⅱ (45%). 18 of 23 cases with lymph node metastasis had intense expression of CD147, while only 12 of 24 cases without lymph node metastasis had intense staining of CD147. No association was observed with pathological grades. CONCLUSION Both MMP 2 and CD147 have relevance to clinical phases and lymph node metastasis of ovarian cancer, but CD147 isn't the unique factor in increasing the expression of MMP 2 to contribute to the metastasis of ovarian cancer.
