Title: Expression and significance of uPAR in hypopharyngeal carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression and significance of urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor(uPAR) in hypopharyngeal carcinoma. Methods Samples of 50 hypopharyngeal carcinoma(group A) and 10 normal hypopharyngeal tissues(group B) were examined by strep avidin-biotin complex(SABC) immunohistochemical technique for expression of uPAR,relationship of which with pathological grading, lymph node metastasis was evaluated. Results The positive rate of uPAR expression was significantly higher in group A than that in group B(68% vs.10%)(P0.01).uPAR positive expression was closely correlated with pathological grading, lymph node metastasis(P0.01),but not with age,sex and staging. Conclusion The uPAR expression is up-regulated in hypopharyngeal carcinoma tissues, which is correlated with pathological grading and lymph node metastasis and can be a marker for the diagnosis and prognosis prediction of hypopharyngeal carcinoma.
