Title: Expression and significance of CDX2 and CEA in human colon cancer
Abstract: [Objective] To detect detected the expression of CDX2 mRNA, CDX2 protein and CEA protein in human colon cancer, and investigate the relationship and clinical significance of CDX2 and CEA in colon cancer. [Methods] Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was applied to detect the expression of CDX2 mRNA in 50 human colon cancer tissues and paracarcinoma tissues; immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of CDX2 protein and CEA protein in the 50 colon cancer tissues and paracarcinoma tissues. [Results] (1)Expression of CDX2 mRNA and CDX2 protein in colon cancer tissue were significantly lower than that in paracarcinoma tissue, whereas expression of CEA protein was significantly higher(P 0.05), The expression of CDX2 protein was inversely correlated with CEA(rs= - 0.578,P 0.01). (2)Expression of CDX2 and CEA protein in colon cancer had not significantly correlation respectively with patient′s gender, age, or situation of tumor(P 0.05), but had significantly correlation with dukes stage, lymphnode medastasis, and differentiation of cancer cell (P 0.05). [Conclusions](1)Down-regulated expression of CDX2 and up-regulated expression of CEA are common events in human colon cancer, both proteins may play animportant role in the tumorigenesis of colon cancer together. (2) CDX2 may be an important marker to evaluate the malignancy, metastasis, and reoccur of colon cancer.
