Title: Synthesis of isoamyl acetate catalyzed by silica supported perchloric acid
Abstract: Isoamyl acetate was synthesized through the esterification reaction of isoamyl alcohol with acetic acid using silica supported perchloric acid(HClO4/SiO2)as a catalyst. The effects of the molar ratio of reactant, the amount of catalyst, reaction temperature and reaction time on the yield of product were discussed. The results showed that the optimized reaction conditions are as follows: the molar ratio of isopentyl alcohol(0.1mol)to acetic acid(0.14mol)is 1∶1.4;the amount of catalyst is 1.0g,reaction temperature is 80℃ and the reaction time is 2.5h.Under the optimum conditions mentioned above, the yield of isoamyl acetate reached more than 85.6%.HClO4/SiO2 as a heterogeneous catalyst has many advantages of high thermal stability, ease of preparation and reusability.
